"THE FRIENDSHIP" - Script

 

 

1. EXT. NOON. PARK

we see different camera angles showing trees, birds, grass. in between those shots a camera angle panning down to show 2 guys sitting on a bench at the park having a good laugh. the characters are introduced by this, showing the audience that they are friends. both guys are teens, 17 years old. they have come to catch up after not seeing each other for a while due to one moving schools in another state.

GEORGE

hahahaaa, good times. good times. man its been a long time since we last hanged together.

WILL

yeh it has, what? like? 7 months yeh?

GEORGE

yeh 7 months, faaaarrrrhh that's ages haha

then there's a moment of silence as they finish reminiscing the recent talked memories.

WILL

*starts to stretch* hey lets walk, i wanna stretch my legs.

GEORGE

yeh ok.

both stand up at the same time,WILL finishes his stretch, and GEORGE glance at his phone for any messages. both start gradually walking out of shot. camera view from the bench shows them both walking off. Will pretends he is warming up for a jog, GEORGE looks at him and just gives him a small push and both laugh walking off while camera focuses on the bench arm rest, blurring them away.

2. EXT. NOON. PARK

WILL and GEORGE start casually walking along in the park. Both talking again like they haven't spoken forever. They walk for a bit and then out of the corner of GEORGE'S eye, he spots a chess board in the park.

GEORGE

hey look.

WILL stops to see what it is.

WILL

ah yeh thats pretty cool.

GEORGE

c'mon we'll play a game..

will

naah man, i cant, have to be meeting my girlfriend for dinner at her par...

GEORGE

c'mmooonn man, why be so whipped for. we havent chilled in months, just one game, ill promise ill go easy on you.

WILL looks at his watch and then looks at GEORGE with a determined cheeky smile.

WILL

haha your on.

WILL starts to run and nudges GEORGE on the way. They both have a chuckle and race to the chess board.

3. EXT. afternoon/Evening. PARK

WILL and GEORGE play and play, having fun, laughing enjoying it all, GEORGE keeps beating WILL at every game but yet WILL keeps playing on having a good time. WILL starts to realize its getting late.

*checking his watch* oh. crap. hah its getting late man, i was suppose to be home bout 2 hours ago.

both stand up from their seats and GEORGE stretches his back and looks at his phone.

GEORGE

yeh i need to rest anyways from whooping your ass haha.

WILL

hey this might sound weird but, do you want to like meet here same time, 5 o'clock? it was nice hanging again like old times

GEORGE

uh yeh that be awesome. so ill see u here tmoro.

will

yeh cya then.

a front on view shows the two giving each other a goodbye handshake as they both part their separate ways leaving the screen shot.

4. ext. afternoon. park

the two friends meet at the same time and same place. playing each other till dusk. With every match GEORGE coming out the as the winner. A montage of them playing day after day shows how the become really close. laughing, having a good time, GEORGE checkmating WILL every game.

5. ext. dusk. park

a close of an intense game shows GEORGE and WILL looking. None make a move. everything is still. Then it shows GEORGE'S face with a smirk look and he makes his move.

GEORGE

that my friend, is checkmate. haha

GEORGE knocks WILL'S king down and stomps his piece on the vacant square. WILL looks up and sighs with amusement.

WILL

i had u man. haha good game.

both shake hands and stand up. GEORGE checks his phone.

GEORGE

i better get going man

WILL

yeh same ill see u tomorrow yeh?

GEORGE is walking away backwards crossing the road not paying attention.

GEORGE

you got it bruh.

with only a second to realize. GEORGE sees the car as it brakes hard instantly. WILL hears the tires screech and turns around.

WILL

GEOOORGEE!!! NO!!

WILL sprints out of frame as it fades away to black.

BLACK Screen. sound effects.

sound effects of someone getting hit by a car. Ambulance sirens with a gurney being pulled in and the doors closing. then the ambulance driving away.

6. ext. afternoon. park

the black screen fades to show WILL and GEORGE playing chess. a title on the screen appears saying "6 months later". you can see that they have been playing for ages. both sides are pretty even then a close up of their faces shows GEORGE concentrating with a worried look on his face. it then goes to WILL who is also concentrating but looks at GEORGE and gives a small grin. WILL moves his piece across.

WILL

check. mate.

GEORGE sighs with surprise and drops his head and laughs. WILL joins in with the laugh. GEORGE looks up and lays back in the chair.

GEORGE

you finally bet me. ha, well played my friend.

WILL

thanks.

will gets up and starts to leave. GEORGE is setting up the pieces.

GEORGE

WILL, same time tomorrow?

will stops and turns around with a smile on his face.

WILL

you got it man.

WILL turns back around and keeps walking. the camera watches him leave as it slowly pans to the left to reveal some flowers taped to a pole with a picture of GEORGE with a sigh, saying, REST IN PEACE.
